About India

The Indian cricket team, administered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is one of the most successful and followed cricket teams in the world. With over a billion passionate fans, cricket in India transcends sport to become a unifying force.

India's cricketing journey began in 1932 when they played their first Test match against England at Lord's. The early years were characterized by struggle, but legends like C.K. Nayudu, Vijay Merchant, and later Sunil Gavaskar, began building a strong cricket culture.

The watershed moment came in 1983 when Kapil Dev's India shocked the world by winning the Cricket World Cup at Lord's, defeating the mighty West Indies. This victory sparked a cricket revolution in India, inspiring a generation of cricketers and fans.

The 1990s and 2000s saw Indian cricket rise to global dominance, led by legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and Anil Kumble. Under the captaincy of Ganguly and later Dhoni, India became a formidable force in world cricket.

MS Dhoni's leadership brought unprecedented success - the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, the ICC World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013. India became the number one Test team under Virat Kohli, with a fast bowling revolution transforming their away performances.

Today, India possesses arguably the strongest squad in world cricket, with talent in every department. The IPL has created a production line of young cricketers, ensuring India's dominance continues for years to come.
